Buçaco Reservado 2017

While in Amsterdam, in the past two weeks I put my tongue on two "blast from the past" Portuguese wines, one with more than 20 years old, Quinta do Poço do Lobo and other more recent, from 2018 Quinta de Saes. Customer desire changes, vinification techniques evolve, styles change, and some wines become something else, while other's keep close to the anchor that defined its legacy, such as this Buçaco. tasted the 2008 vintage more than 10 years ago and never forgot the experience. Hence, what the 2017 bring us?

Aromas have such a weight, ripe fruit, seems quince and grapefruit and other yellow berries.

In the mouth stings the tongue, with composed acidity, blended quince with resin, citrus zest, gooseberries, it grows and reveals sumptuousness all up. Highly recommended.

Father's Eyes Chardonnay 2020

Aromas with ripe fruit, peach, honey and melon.

Dissolves in the mouth. Very fruity and juicy, maybe too much, but it doesn't make you sick. You start to think it fits best to pair with desert, then, minerals kick-in and it all disappears and dries at supersonic speed. Extraordinary. From sweet to dry.

Passi di Orma 2020

Made from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

A hand full of ripe cherries in the nose. In the mouth it is smooth, it resembles a Spanish rioja, well composed of cherries, some fruit jam, toasted oak wood and that spice that peaks in the end. It is greedy, structured, live character with an intoxicating freshness.

Vinhas Improváveis Reserva 2019

Black fruits, raisins, blackberry, some wood and dark chocolate shavings in the nose.

It is soft and acidic at the same time, like Ying & Yang. The beginning is a bit plasticized. With excess wood and candy.  Then it changes and gets the wine seriously without spells and this should be the real experience I am paying for.

Amaranta Montepulciano Abruzzo 2018

Compact aroma: blackberries, cherries and toasted wood.

In the mouth fills mildly in full bloom. It has black fruit and cherries rolling like Maltesers. It's a bit woody. Everything sticks to the tongue. It is intoxicating and poisonous with pepper.

Lodali Bricco Ambrogio 2014

Anise, chemical aromas and other oxides.

It is quite rusty, there is anise flower, raisins, dark chocolate . It is a wine against the easy going and commonplace characters.

Jean-Pierre Moueix Saint-Emilion 2018

Earth, mushrooms, dried fig, dried fruits in the aromatic composition.

Starts different, dark chocolat with orange flavor. Drum rolls dried fig and then changes to a cool breeze led by blackberries.

Ventoux vieilles vignes 2021

Made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan. The aromas do not talk too much. It is painted in red fruit and floating flowers.

It's super fresh and it has a kick! Red fruits, dried nuts, some petals at the end. It is highly enjoyable and pairs easily with meat dishes.

Kimera 2020

Well, revisiting Grenache poisonous character is always a bliss. Add organic wines in the mix and he have the perfect tasting experience.

Petroleum and chemicals in aroma with dried herbs hints.

Light, direct, fresh in the mouth, fluid with blackberry upfront and some cherries underneath, lightly smoked and smoke.

Ultimate Provence Rose 2021

I found this wine in the Netherlands, during summer time. Summer is mild, with temperatures reaching 24 degrees Celsius, which makes it perfect to enjoy pink bottles.

It is delicately floral aroma blended with red fruit. It is seductive.

There's strawberry in the palate! It reveals a dry character, after the first pass with the strawberries, lychees comes to the mix. It is refined and feels like summer.
